San Diego State University Energy Management Project

San Diego State University (SDSU) has retained ETA to assist in connecting the campus-wide existing energy management plan and strategies with the ENERGY STAR Energy Management Program and align its initiative with the national program managed by the US EPA. This is being accomplished in conjunction with the training of students on the ENERGY STAR program and the development of a new course at SDSU.

Oncure Medical Corp Energy Management Plan and Strategy

Oncure Medical Corp retained ETA to follow the ENERGY STAR Methodology and Management Plan and Stratgeies to analyze the energy performance of existing offices and assist in the creation of energy management plan and recommendations of specific measures for the Region under study.

San Diego VA Medical Center

The San Diego VA Medical Center receives the ENERGY STAR in 2011 (the second year in a row) with the assistance of Lee Stevens. With the changes in benchmarking hospitals occurring in November 2011, the Medical Center worked very closely with ETA to ensure the integrity of all records pre-modification of the Portfolio Manager tool. The entire Engineering, Energy and Electrical  teams at the San Diego VA Medical Center contributed to this major accomplishment.

Parking Lot LED Lighting

fluke

During early 2009, Resource Conservation District, located in Lakeside, California began considering options for their outdoor area lighting needs. The build out of their new office space allowed for the opportunity to include new parking lot lighting. In lieu of replacing dysfunctional poles and fixtures with traditional metal halide fixtures, LEDs were the light source of choice.

Advanced Lighting Control System

advlightassess

  • The objective with this assessment was to assess the energy efficiency potential of an advanced lighting control system, determine the difficulty of properly installing an ALCS, and understand occupant acceptance of light levels.

  •

Office of the Future 25% Solution

    25p

The objective with this assessment was to assess the persistent energy reduction potential of high quality, efficient lighting controlled by an advanced lighting control system, determine the customer’s perspective regarding the degree of difficulty in properly installing the lighting and ALCS, understand occupant acceptance of controlled light levels.

    High Ceiling Lighting Options

    highceiling

The High Ceiling Lighting Options Technology Assessment project studied the applicability of compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) and light emitting diodes (LEDs) in a high ceiling general illumination application. At Hyatt, areas of the grand foyer were selected to replace the base case incandescent lamps with CFL, direct replacement lamp LED and a recessed LED downlight retrofit assembly allowing for a side by side comparison of the light sources.

    Advanced Street Lighting

    streetlight

This report summarizes a street lighting assessment project conducted to determine the potential of broad spectrum lighting utilized with LED and induction light sources in a street lighting application. In this project, LED and induction luminaires from different manufacturers replaced existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights, including an intersection, along a one mile section of a main street in San Diego, California.

    LED Troffer and Downlight Interior

    troffer

This assessment demonstrated that LED general illumination ambient lighting technologies deliver lighting power densities which meet or exceed Title 24 requirements. LEDs exhibited potential for energy savings and the potential for better operation and maintenance savings.

    SDG&E Energy Innovation Center

    P1000731

Daryl DeJean began in the first quarter of 2011 working on the lighting of the San Diego Gas & Electric Energy Innovation Center. Daryl working in close coordination with many lighting fixture and lightin control systems manufacturers, assisted the architect, engineering and construction is the selection of the state of the art lighting solutions and integrating the lighting system with other building systems. In addition, extensive use of daylighting will demonstrate the costs effectiveness of daylighting.

    Hotel Guest Room Energy Control

    hotelcontrol

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) retained Daryl DeJean of Emerging Technologies Associates (ETA) as Project Manager to manage an innovative evaluation, measurement and verification (EM&V) of three hotel guest rooms HVAC direct digital control systems at four hotels in San Diego County. ETA worked side by side with California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) in collecting the energy data and ensuring the integrity of the systems  during the test period.

    High Efficiency Office: Large Office

    OfficeLowAmbient-tmb

The High Efficiency Office Low Ambient/Task Lighting project was designed to verify the design concept, and technology functionality. The main objective of the assessment was to determine the level of reduction energy consumption achievable via a low ambient, high task lighting strategy using standard off-the-shelf lighting technologies in the commercial office market end-use.

    High Efficiency Office: Small Office

High Efficiency Office Low Ambient/Task Lighting: Small Office

The project was designed to verify the functionality as well as the lighting levels currently achievable by utilizing an integrated lighting control system. The main objective of the assessment was to determine the level of reduction energy consumption achievable via integrated lighting controls in the commercial office market end-use.

    LED Refrigerated Case Lighting II

     LED-Refrigerated-Case-Lighting-II

The project was designed to verify the brightness and quality of light currently achievable with replacing traditional linear fluorescent tube lighting in freezer case and refrigerated case applications with new LED linear lighting systems.

    Hamann ICE Cold Storage

    thumb_Hamann_ICE_Cold_Storage

ICE II  Cold Storage is a LEED certified cold storage facility located in Otay Mesa, CA. Emerging Technologies was brought in by San Diego Gas & Electric to assess the use of LED's in a high bay warehouse application during the construction of the warehouse. The developer, Hamann Construction were looking for a state of the art high performance lighting system to match the cutting edge technologies utilized in the refrigeration, HVAC and building envelope of the building.

    Charles Koll Jewelry Store

    jewelrystore

In the retail jewelry sector, lighting is used to draw shoppers into the store and enhance their buying experience by highlighting products and creating positive visual impressions. This LED retail jewelry display assessment project was designed and conducted by Emerging Technologies Associates (ETA) on behalf of SDG&E to study the applicability of LED Direct Lamp Replacement (DLR) in both ambient and focal-point lighting in the retail jewelry sector.

    HID Electronic Ballast - Institutional

    LED Low-Bay Garage Lighting

    LED Low-Bay Garage Lighting

This project examines the energy efficiency potential and viability of lighting emitting diode (LED) lighting at an underground parking garage at a major hotel in San Francisco. Light-emitting diode (LED) lights are emerging as a viable alternative for outdoor locations such as parking lots, parking garages, and streets, which typically use wallpaks and bollards lit with high wattage, high intensity discharge (HID) or fluorescent lights. In addition to increased energy efficiency, LEDs offer longer bulb life, reliability, and cool operating temperatures.

    Mark Twain House Museum

    thumb_Mark_Twain_House_2

The Mark Twain House Museum was looking for ways to reduce its operating costs. Working with the Museum, Emerging Technologies Associates (ETA) reviewed the existing 400 plus incandescent and fluorescent lamps and fixtures. ETA designed a lighting configuration that resulted in the retrofit of the existing lighting fixtures to be switched to LED lamps throughout the museum exhibit area, retail space, storage areas and office space.
