ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Energy Performance Tools - SDG&E Energy Center August 9, 2011

Daryl presented the highly popular topic of the many FREE Energy Performance Tools that are available on the ENERGY STAR website. Fourty one attendees immediately benchmarked buildings and plan on benchmarking facilities for a total of 10,831,000 square feet. It was terrific to see so many familiar faces and to see how much more informed the audience was since ETA began training SDG&E customers through this training initiative in 2010.

He covered such sub topics as:

1. how does Portfolio Manager help with LEED certification?

2. how it will help meet Assembly Bill 1103 which takes effect on 7/1/11?

3. setting energy performance targets for planning purposes and setting goals that are realisitic

4. how to procure equipment using "quantity quotes"?

5. review financial calculators and how to interpret their results; the need for total transparency with the basic assumptions are critical

6. no cost measures such as plug load measures such vending machines and ice machine surveys can help reduce the combined costs of energy efficiency

7. how to use the Building Upgrade Manual?

8. understanding the "opportunity costs" of hidden cash flows given up by paying for avoidable and unneccessary energy waste.

9. differentiate "energy efficiency" from "energy conservation"

10. how enhancing energy efficiency increases the value of a building immediately by increasing the income derived from the building

11. the importance of verifiable and persistent cash flow year after year is a necessary requirement

12. how to use graphs and reports for energy performance tracking over time and compare a building against its internal peers?
